Created in 1963, the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona has long since transcended its watchmaking dimension to become an icon. Its name, inseparable from the famous Daytona Beach circuit in Florida, embodies the ties that unite Rolex with the world of motor racing, particularly major endurance competitions. Its dial, instantly recognizable with its contrasting circles, has contributed to its legendary status. Constantly improved and refined over time, the Cosmograph Daytona has proven to be a reliable and precise ally for those who want to live their destiny by their own rules.
Bezel, minute track, and three counters: the distinctive five-circle iconography is emblematic of the Cosmograph Daytona. Over time, the dial design, color combinations, and case architecture have been regularly redesigned to reaffirm the model's elegance.
A key element of the Cosmograph Daytona's identity, the tachymeter scale is located on the watch's bezel. It allows you to determine an average speed of up to 400 kilometers or miles per hour, using the central chronograph seconds hand.
The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with caliber 4131. This chronograph movement, entirely designed and manufactured by Rolex, is the successor to caliber 4130. Unveiled in 2023, it incorporates some of the major innovations brought by Rolex to its movements: Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers and optimized ball bearings.
This caliber also features an openworked oscillating weight and, on the bridges, an exclusive “Côtes de Genève Rolex” decoration – a reinterpretation of an emblematic decoration of traditional Swiss watchmaking.
On the 950 platinum version, recognizable by its ice blue dial, the oscillating weight is made of yellow gold and is visible to the wearer through a transparent sapphire case back. A first in the Oyster Perpetual collection.
The Cosmograph Daytona is also available, for the 18K gold versions with Cerachrom bezel, on an Oysterflex bracelet. Developed by Rolex and patented, this uniquely combines the robustness of a metal bracelet with the comfort of an elastomer strap. Equipped with an Oysterlock safety clasp, preventing accidental opening, its length can be adjusted thanks to the ingenious Rolex Glidelock extension system.
The Cosmograph Daytona has been the watch of choice for motor racing enthusiasts since its inception. Like Paul Newman, legendary actor, accomplished driver, and pioneer of social entrepreneurship; Sir Jackie Stewart, iconic figure of Formula 1® and one of the most celebrated drivers of the last fifty years; Tom Kristensen, the Danish driver who holds the record for the most Le Mans triumphs with 9 wins; and Jamie Chadwick, the young British racing driver who has become the new benchmark in single-seater racing, many have adopted it in their daily lives beyond the racetrack.
